LINGAYEN -- Pangasinan First Lady Priscilla Espino and Police Regional Office-Ilocos Director Ramon Gatan inaugurated Wednesday afternoon the biggest replica of the policeman's Pershing Cap and the Badge of Honor Park located beside the entrance gate of the police provincial command.

The concrete Pershing Cap, which measures 7.5 meters in diameter, was made the roof of the 10 square meters that now serves as the office of the Camp Commander and the Sergeant of the Guards.

Beside it is the landscaped "Badge of Honor Park." At the middle is a small mound decorated with five markers.

These are the PNP badge (more than one meter in height), which bears the badge number (O-01020) of Pangasinan Police Provincial Director Percival Barba, the PNP seal, the seals of the Police Regional Office-Ilocos, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) and that of Pangasinan.

Barba said steps where visitors can sit at were purposely placed for those who would like to take a picture with the seals.

"Now the provincial police headquarters has a landmark. When asked before where the PPPO is, we say it is beside the airstrip where small planes land as the camp itself dont have a name. Now, we can just simply say just look for the biggest Pershing cap of PNP cap and you will be entering the camp," Barba remarked.

He thanked Governor Amado Espino Jr. and his wife, and Pangasinan second district Engineer Rodolfo Dion (who gave P100,000 worth of materials) for their assistance in the construction of the Pershing Cap and the park.

He said Abono party-list chairman Rosendo So also pledged P100,000 assistance.

"This twin projects is a manifestation of leadership by example. The sprawling Capitol compound and the buildings inside were all reconstructed/rehabilitation, the parks all around were beautified and is now a must-see place in the province. I was encouraged to do the same inside the camp. First we had the front perimeter fence spruced-up with different murals, and now this."

The Pershing Cap was designed by United States Army Quartermaster General in December 24, 1921 and introduced in the Philippines by General John Joseph Pershing, then US Army Chief of Staff.

The design was later adopted by the Philippine National Police as official headgear of the policemen.
